One race was completed in tough conditions during the latest round of the RS400 Frostie Series at Royal North of Ireland Yacht Club on Belfast Lough.
Heavy rain and mist covered the venue on 7 December, leaving a flooded dinghy park and barely a whisper of breeze. A strong spring tide complicated efforts to set a course.
Twice, Race Officer Gerry Reid signalled the fleet to prepare, but each time the light northerly breeze faded, forcing abandonments.
Most crews were ready to retire to the warmth of the clubhouse when a final gust prompted a third attempt. Ten boats managed to start.
Patrick Hamilton and Jakub Ozarek made the best of the conditions and led to the finish, claiming victory in the only race of the day.
Ross Kearney and Andrew Vaughan finished second, just ahead of Luke McIlwaine and John Driscoll in third.
As the last boat crossed the line, a steady 15-knot westerly finally filled in — perfect timing for a fast reach to the slip.
Series leaders Gareth Flannigan and Knox Wilson remain on top overall with 25 nett points from 12 races.
