Defending Irish Squib champions Micheal O'Suilleabhain and Michael O'Sullivan, sailing Mucky Duck from Kinsale Yacht Club, have returned to the top of the scoreboard after five races at Lough Derg Yacht Club in County Tipperary.

The father-and-son duo were outside the top three following Friday's first two races but made a strong comeback on Saturday with two race wins to take the lead, tied on 15 points with South Caernarvonshire's Grayling, helmed by Richard Robinson and Mark Thompson.

One point behind in third place overall are Tom Jeffcoate and Mark Hogan, sailing Ric O'Shea.

Friday's overnight leader, Ian Travers and Keith O'Riordan, the recent Northern Championship winners, scored (14.0), 12.0, and 7.0, placing them fifth overall in the 42-boat fleet.

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven't put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full-time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
