21 boats turned out for the AIB Dublin Bay Sailing Club (DBSC) Water Wag race on Wednesday, August 14th, at Dun Laoghaire Harbour.
Race Officer Harry Gallagher, aboard committee vessel Corinthian, hoisted the AP at 18.40 as the Assistant Harbour Master advised the race management team that the cruise ship Vasco Da Gama, which was tendering to pontoon berth No. 4, the Hebridean Princess, was due into the harbour at 19.00. After her slightly delayed arrival, the Race Officer got racing underway, setting a windward/leeward course of two rounds with a final beat to finish at the weather mark in a southwesterly 8-12 knot balmy breeze.
Close racing ensued, with Adam Winkelmann sailing Mademoiselle taking the gun from John O’Driscoll’s Moosmie and the Magowans sailing Mary Kate taking third place.
Top 3 finishers were:
- 1. No. 46 Mademoiselle, Adam Winkelmann & Ollie O’Carroll
- 2. No. 15 Moosmie, John O’Driscooll & Shirley Gilmore
- 3. No. 6 Mary Kate, Mike & Ian Magowan
