A plan to bring the historic Carrickfergus-built tall ship Result home was unveiled on its 133rd anniversary. The event, held on 6 January at the Ulster Transport Museum, included the launch of an outline business case for the project.

Attendees included Communities Minister Gordon Lyons, Mid and East Antrim Mayor Jackson Minford, and representatives from National Museums Northern Ireland.

The initiative, led by the Carrickfergus Tall Ship Project, proposes restoring Result and relocating her to Carrickfergus Harbour at a cost of £3 million. Once in place, Result would become a static attraction, offering a living history experience, an event space, and a symbol of local maritime pride.

“Historically, ships like the Result were built by, crewed by and served coastal communities,” said project director and historian Christopher Kenny. “While the Result will not sail again... the return of this iconic heritage asset will provide a boost to the town’s prosperity.”

The group hopes the ship’s revival will celebrate Carrickfergus’ shipbuilding legacy and support tourism and community engagement.
