Dublin Port’s storied past and active present are the focus of a special series of TV programmes this week as part of RTÉ’s Nationwide.
In the first episode, broadcast on Monday (28 April), Bláthnaid Ní Chofaigh visits the port to learn about its day-to-day workings, meeting the staff and infrastructure that keep goods and people moving 24/7.
Wednesday’s (30 April) episode explores the rich built and cultural heritage of the port and its surrounding communities, and showing how deeply it’s woven into the fabric of the city.
Of particular interest is the Dublin Port Memory and Story Project, which brings to life some of the thousands of photographs and documents from the port’s 300-plus-year archive with audio and video testaments from port workers themselves.
The series continues Friday evening at 7pm on RTÉ One, and viewers in Ireland can catch up on the series on RTÉ Player.
