Dublin Port expects 2025 to be a record year for shipping containers, reflecting the resilience of the Irish economy.
As The Irish Independent reports, up to €165bn in trade and goods passed through Dublin Port.
The capital handles 80pc of all containerised freight entering the Republic.
The port’s head of commercial operations Cormac Kennedy said the lift-on/lift-off trade was already close to levels seen over the whole of last year, with December figures still to be calculated.
“We largely mirror the economy,” Kennedy told the newspaper, noting large imports of consumer products were going through the port.
It has also recorded its highest number of cars imported since the Celtic Tiger period, when car imports peaked at 141,000 in 2007.
Dublin Port handled just under 120,000 car imports this year.
Disruption at Holyhead after damage caused by a storm in December 2024 has affected the roll-on/roll-off trade, which is expected to be down marginally.
An Coimisiún Pleanála is expected to rule sometime next year on Dublin Port’s planning application for its €1.1bn 3FM project.
