An oil spill occurred during refuelling operations on the Stena Hibernia at Dublin Port Company on Monday evening (Apr 20).
The incident happened at approximately 20:05 at an operational berth on the eastern side of Dublin Port.
The port’s Oil Spill Response Plan was activated immediately. Authorities said the source of the leak has been secured and the spill is contained within a confined area.
Response teams remain on site. They are working in coordination with the Irish Coast Guard and other relevant agencies.
Containment booms have been deployed. Specialist contractors are recovering the spilled material.
“The Dublin Port shipping channel remains largely unaffected,” Dublin Port Company said. “There is no impact on other river users at this time.”
The company said environmental protection is a priority. “Our focus is on the safe containment and management of the incident,” it added.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause and scale of the spill.
