The annual winter lift-out of sailing cruisers is underway at Dún Laoghaire Harbour today (Saturday, 10 October), with two large mobile cranes operating in a brisk north-westerly wind of 15 to 20 mph.
Boats are being lifted ashore at the Royal St George Yacht Club and National Yacht Club, marking the end of another summer season for many of the harbour's cruising yachts.
The waterfront hardstanding areas are being filled with yachts and cruisers, which will remain ashore over the winter months ahead of their return to the water next spring.
The operation follows last year's winter lift-out, when approximately 60 boats were lifted ashore between the two clubs in near-perfect weather conditions.
The Dun Laoghaire Motor Yacht Club (DMYC) will follow with its own annual winter lift-out next Saturday, 17 October, as the harbour's yacht clubs continue their preparations for the winter season.
Winter Sailing Continues
While many cruisers are coming ashore, winter sailing activity will continue at Dún Laoghaire.
The Viking Marine DMYC Frostbite Series begins on Sunday, 1 November, with dinghy racing continuing through to 21 March 2027, apart from the Christmas break.
The DBSC Turkey Shoot Winter Series will also bring cruiser and keelboat racing to Dublin Bay during the winter season.
