The Department of Transport has been advised that a beam trawl survey will be undertaken on the South Coast of Ireland on behalf of the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (CEFAS), an executive agency of the United Kingdom’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).
The survey is anticipated to take place between 23 February and 30 March, subject to weather and operational constraints, at various locations in the Celtic Sea and the Irish Sea.
Survey works will be conducted by the RV Cefas Endeavour (callsign VQHF3) which will display appropriate lights and signals. The vessel will be towing either 2 x 4m beam trawls or an otter trawl during fishing operations. Each fishing station will be towed by the vessel for a maximum of 30 minutes at a speed of ~4 knots.
