Galway City Council says its crews have begun clean-ups after Storm Ashley, which swept onto the Atlantic seaboard with 120 km winds.
Up to 53,000 homes were without power across a number of counties last night,and the full extent of the storm will not be known till Monday morning.
Galway City Council said the storm caused some coastal flooding in Salthill and took down trees.
A yellow warning remained in place after the status orange warning was stood down at 2000 hours last night for Atlantic counties extending from Kerry to Donegal.
Galway City Council said that some coastal carparks would remain closed on Monday, along with several road closures in Salthill.
It issued a “thank you” to the public for following guidance from local and national agencies to minimise the impacts of this weather event.
It urged people to “continue to be vigilant for coastal flooding, large coastal waves, fallen trees and branches, difficult travelling conditions, and debris/ loose objects displaced”.
