Two volunteers at the Galway RNLI Lifeboat Stations have recently assumed new roles. Mike Guilfoyle is now the Launch Authority, overseeing launch activities and crew safety.
Guilfoyle joined the RNLI in September 2023. Alongside his Launch Authority role, he is the Training Coordinator, ensuring the crew meets training standards.
“I realised that I could contribute something back and support the lifeboat station in Galway,” said Guilfoyle.
Paddy Hennelly joined the crew in May 2023 and is advancing through the training framework. He has also taken on the role of Station Mechanic.
As the Station Mechanic, Hennelly ensures the lifeboat is well-maintained and equipped for service. “It is definitely a challenge but exceptionally rewarding,” he commented.
Amy O’Connor, RNLI Area Operations Manager, highlighted the importance of training and volunteer roles at the station. “The RNLI is volunteerism at its best,” she noted.
