Presidential candidate and Independent TD Catherine Connolly attended the annual blessing of the boats in Galway’s Claddagh Basin.
Ms Connolly, whose brother Peter is a driving force behind the restoration of Galway Hookers with Bádóirí an Cladaigh, was accompanied by her husband Brian McEnery.

Parish priest Fr Tom McCarthy officiated at the blessing, accompanied by Fr Conor McDonough OP.
Susan Lally of the Claddagh Residents Committee was also involved in the organisation.
