A west coast ferry operator has welcomed the launch of the new TFI Local Link service from Galway to Doolin Pier as a major boost for maritime tourism and coastal connectivity in Clare.
The new bus route (351), which stops at key locations including Kinvara, Ballyvaughan, Fanore, and the Cliffs of Moher, allows visitors to travel from Galway City to Doolin Pier. There is no need for the car, as the bus takes you to the maritime gateway of the Aran Islands and the Cliffs of Moher.
“This is a real win for tourism in the region and for the environment,” said Liam O’Brien, owner of Doolin Ferry. “We’ve always known that the journey to Doolin is as spectacular as the destination itself. Now people can enjoy that journey stress-free and step off the bus straight onto a ferry.”

The move comes at a time when demand for sustainable travel options is growing. With up to five daily services, Route 351 now opens up low-impact access to one of Ireland’s most visited coastal regions—easing congestion, reducing emissions, and supporting rural and maritime tourism along the Wild Atlantic Way.
With seamless connections to national rail services in Oranmore and real-time updates available via the TFI Live app, Route 351 also complements the existing Bus Éireann 350 service, improving year-round access to Doolin Pier.
In addition to services from Doolin, Aran Island Ferries also operates to the three islands from Rossaveel (Connemara), giving additional travel options across Galway Bay and from Galway City to Inishmore with a return via the Cliffs of Moher.
The Local Link service is expected to bring a welcome economic boost to Doolin and surrounding communities, with local businesses reporting a growing interest in car-free, coast-focused holidays.
