The GLA for Wales, England, the Channel Islands, and Gibraltar, Trinity House, joined businesses, local authorities, and arm’s-length bodies around the UK by signing the Armed Forces Covenant.
The signing took place yesterday at Trinity House's headquarters in London.
The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise that together we acknowledge and understand that those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces and their families, including the bereaved, should be treated with fairness and respect in the communities, economy, and society they serve with their lives.
Trinity House recognizes that no member of the Armed Forces Community should face disadvantage in the provision of public and commercial services compared to any other citizen. We also recognize that in some circumstances, special provision may be appropriate, especially for those injured or bereaved.
At Trinity House, we will endeavour to uphold the key principles of the covenant.
Our commitments will:
- Promote internally and externally our commitment to being Armed Forces friendly;
- Support the employment of veterans.
- Support the employment of service spouses and partners;
- Support our employees who are members of the Reserve Forces, granting additional paid leave for annual Reserve Forces training;
- Support our employees who are volunteer leaders in military cadet organizations; and
- Take part in national remembrance activities.
Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, is Master of Trinity House, and as Afloat reported today, she has agreed to become the new Patron of the International Association of Cape Horners (IACH).
In 2019, she visited the GLA for Ireland, at the Commissioners of Irish Lights HQ in Dún Laoghaire Harbour.
