A dog was rescued yesterday after falling from cliffs east of Roberts Cove off Cork Harbour. The incident occurred around 11:35 AM on Saturday, 20 September.
The dog's owner, who was searching from a kayak, alerted the Crosshaven RNLI crew. Under the command of Aidan O'Connor, they swiftly reached the site, approximately three miles southwest of Roches Point.
Upon arrival, the owner had located the dog at the base of 180-foot cliffs but could not retrieve it. Crew members Aidan O’Connor and Holly Fegan waded ashore after navigating the lifeboat through rocky terrain.
They discovered the dog injured but alive. The crew fashioned a makeshift stretcher and carefully transported the animal over slippery rocks back to the lifeboat.
Once aboard, they also brought the owner and his kayak before heading to Roberts Cove. The lifeboat was met by the Oysterhaven Coast Guard upon arrival.
The crew hopes for the dog’s full recovery. Shore crew members included Derek Moynan, James Fegan, Moira Kavanagh, Alan Venner, Micheal Livingstone, Kline Pennefather, and Micheal McCann, with Phil Maguire and Hugh Tully coordinating the launch.
