The last ISORA cross-channel race of 2024 takes place this Sunday (August 25th), and there are indications up to 20 boats may contest the Irish offshore sailing season's closing Ireland-Wales fixture.
The 80-mile James C Eadie Cup Race from Pwllheli in North Wales to Dun Laoghaire Harbour on Dublin Bay follows an intense season of 15 ISORA races, which is set for an exciting end-of-season climax that – with a weighting of 1.3 – will most likely decide the overall Wolf's Head Trophy.
The James Eadie is the penultimate race of the year, and it will be followed by a September coastal race to conclude the 2024 season.
As Afloat previously reported, the overall leader, the IRC Class Zero Mojito (Vicky Cox and Peter Dunlop of Pwllheli), still faces a challenge from the National Yacht Club's IRC Two Class J109 Ruth, sailed by the Shanahan family, already a winner of two Irish offshore fixtures this season.
While organisers are hoping for a bumper turnout, two of the season's top cruiser-racer performers have already indicated they will not be on the line as Volvo Cork Week winner Valentina, skippered by Johnny Treanor, bowed out, as has May's Inistearaght Race winner Chris Power-Smith's J122 Aurelia from the Royal St. George Yacht Club.
