In the 2025 J80 National Championships at the Royal Irish Yacht Club on Dublin Bay, Ram Jam took top honours. Austin Kenny’s entry from the host club won two races and counted just five points.

More moderate conditions prevailed on Sunday after 30 knot winds on Saturday led to one dismasting in the single race sailed.

Second place went to Mojo, helmed by Pat O’Neill of Howth Yacht Club. Mojo finished with a race win and seven points overall.

Third was Owen Laverty’s RStGYC entry, Red Cloud which secured a race win on the final day. Laverty finished on nine points.

In race one, Fred Tottenham’s 9 crossed first. Javelin was second and Jester third.

Race two went to Mojo, ahead of Ram Jam and 9.

Ram Jam took victory in race three, followed by Mojo and Probably (Ian Simmington).

Laverty sealed race four with a win. Ram Jam placed second and Jester third.

Ten boats competed, with four races sailed and one discard applied.

The event was sailed as part of the RIYC's J Cup Ireland, supported by Viking Marine and Key Yachting.

About J/80 Sailing

Easy to handle the J/80 is said to be less intimidating, safer and better suited for sailing offshore than other modern sport boats.

It even has a full-length V-berth and 12-foot-long cockpit.

Thanks to its combination of stability, speed, durability, low maintenance and age-friendly deck layout, the J/80 has proved to be a great club boat around Irish yacht clubs with fleets popular in Dublin on both sides of the Bay at Howth and Dun Laoghaire.

The key to a racing keelboat is that it holds the attention and interest of many types of sailors, young and old.  The J80 does it all, with thrilling 15-knot rides under spinnaker or relaxed sunset cruises with mainsail only.

The Irish J/80 Class Association was formed in 2017 to represent owners, sailors, associated clubs and to help develop J/80 racing in Ireland.
