The Mervue Optimist October League commenced on Sunday, October 12th, on Cork Harbour's Curlane Bank. More than 35 Optimist sailors took part in this season-closing series at the Royal Cork Yacht Club.

Supported by sponsorship from William Twomey and his team at Mervue.ie, the league spans the month of October. Race Officer Stephen O’Sullivan commented on the competitive environment. “The starts are incredibly busy, the racing is tight and fiercely competitive,” he stated.

Three trapezoid races were conducted in a steady 8–10 knot easterly breeze. The leaderboard follows a national ranking system, with results divided into Senior, Junior, and Regatta divisions. After two days and six races, the top results are:

  1. George Creighton (IRL 1693, Junior) – 8 pts
  2. Dylan O’Sullivan (IRL 1868, Junior) – 10 pts
  3. Isaac Vaughan (IRL 1677, Senior) – 14 pts

Racing will continue over the next two Sundays, with plans for a full 12-race series, weather permitting.
