World Sailing has opened applications for the 2026 Youth Emerging Nations Programme (ENP). Member National Authorities (MNAs) are invited to apply on behalf of their most promising young sailors. The deadline is Friday, the 27th of March 2026.

Since 2021, sailors from 33 nations have taken part in the programme. In 2025, 20 sailors from 15 countries across Africa, South America, the Caribbean, Oceania and Europe received support.

Fiona Kidd, World Sailing’s Head of International Development, said the initiative has become “a powerful launchpad for the next generation of global sailing talent”. She urged eligible MNAs to “seize this opportunity and put forward their most promising young sailors that are already on the appropriate high-performance pathway and are aiming to compete at the highest level in the youth category”.

Kidd added: “The World Sailing Youth ENP is not just about one championship, it is about building confidence, raising standards, and enabling sailors to experience international competition that will help them transition to senior elite competition.”

The programme, which has been running for more than 20 years, is designed to support emerging sailing nations. It provides access to high-performance coaching and international racing experience.

Six-Month Development Programme

Selected sailors will undertake a structured six-month pathway. This includes expert coaching through online training sessions, delivered in English, aimed at improving performance at the Youth Sailing World Championships.

Athletes will also attend a four-day pre-event training camp with World Sailing-approved coaches, focusing on technical skills, race preparation and performance strategy.

The programme includes entry to the 2026 Youth Sailing World Championships in Vilamoura, Portugal, from 11–19 December 2026.

Places Available for 2026

Applications must be submitted by MNAs. Each MNA may apply for one male and one female sailor per class.

For 2026, places are available in:

  • ILCA 6 – 16 sailors (eight men and eight women)
  • iQFOiL – six sailors (three men and three women)

MNAs seeking to apply are advised to contact World Sailing directly.
