Ireland’s first floating sauna has now been installed in Dún Laoghaire Harbour ahead of its planned summer opening.
New photographs taken on Thursday, May 22, show the floating structure moored at Coal Harbour beside the East Pier. The installation marks a major milestone for the Helios Sauna project first announced earlier this year.
Floating Arrival: Helios Sauna’s new floating sauna is now installed at Dún Laoghaire Harbour ahead of its planned summer opening as Ireland’s first floating sauna experience
The timber-clad sauna, mounted on a floating pontoon, includes a deck area and cold-water plunge pool overlooking Dublin Bay.
Irish sauna operator Helios confirmed previously that the project is being delivered in partnership with Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council. The concept was inspired by floating sauna facilities in Oslo.
“People will be able to come down the steps in Dun Laoghaire Harbour and step onto a pontoon and then enter the floating sauna,” Helios Sauna co-founder Mikolaj Piotrowski said earlier this year.
As Afloat reported in January 2025, the local authority issued a public call for operators interested in developing a floating sauna attraction in Coal Harbour.
Helios currently operates sauna locations in Bray, Dundrum, Dublin city and Rosslare Strand.
The Dún Laoghaire installation is expected to become one of the harbour’s newest visitor attractions as sea-swimming and wellness tourism continue to grow in popularity along the Dublin coastline.
