Sir Ben Ainslie readies Britain’s next America’s Cup campaign

Sir Ben Ainslie is set to unveil within weeks the backer and team behind Britain's campaign for the 2027 America's Cup in Naples.

The Olympic legend and former America's Cup winner confirmed the announcement is imminent, following the conclusion of the 37th edition in Barcelona.

“It’s coming very soon… within the next two to four weeks, we’ll have more to say on that,” Ainslie said. “Watch this space.”

The 2027 event will see Ainslie's new outfit, Athena Racing, take on the Challenger of Record role, after parting ways with previous backer INEOS earlier this year.

The new British campaign benefits from a partnership with the New Zealand event organisers, helping to create greater commercial and operational certainty.

A cost cap of $87 million has been introduced for teams competing in the 2027 race, aimed at levelling the playing field.

Ainslie has reiterated his goal of returning the America's Cup to Britain, where the competition was first held off the Isle of Wight in 1851.
