Cora McNaughton and Sean Cronin of Blessington SC and Malahide YC lead a 31-boat Irish International 420 Class Association National Championships 2024 after three races sailed in Cork Harbour at Crosshaven.
McNaughton and Cronin scored 1,3,1 on the opening day races on Friday (August 16), in light to medium winds, to have a six-point margin over the Royal Cork YC's Isha Duggan and Tommy Hiras on 11 points. Third is the Waterford Harbour SC pairing Max Sweetman and Fionn Lynch, who won the Leinster Championships in July, also on 11.
Race Officer Ciaran McSweeney completed the full schedule despite delays due to shifting winds.
The event marks a special birthday for the 420 class as it celebrates its 50th anniversary this weekend.
The championship is one of three this weekend at Royal Cork Yacht Club as part of the 'Tri Championships 2024', the other two being the Irish Fireball Class Association National Championships 2024 and the Irish 29er Class Association National Championship 2024.
