Barry McCartin and Conor Kinsella of the RStGYC lead a bumper 22-boat Irish Fireball National Championship and Youth Championship 2024 after three races sailed in Cork Harbour at Crosshaven.
McCartin and Kinsella scored 3,1,3 on the opening day races on Friday (August 16), in light to medium winds, to have a one-point margin over the National Yacht Club's Noel Butler and Stephen Oram on eight points. Third is local pairing, and winners of the recent Ulster championships, Ewen Barry and Sandy Rimmington of Monkstown Bay Sailing Club on 13.
Race Officer Ciaran McSweeney completed the full schedule despite delays due to shifting winds.
The championship is one of three taking place this weekend at Royal Cork Yacht Club as part of the 'Tri Championships 2024', the other two being the Irish International 420 Class Association National Championships 2024 and the Irish 29er Class Association National Championship 2024.
