Last weekend's Royal Cork Yacht Club 'At Home" Regatta for dinghy classes broke with tradition last Saturday by starting their racing at Monkstown Bay in Cork Harbour.
As Afloat reported previously, the 304th edition of the event also saw the National 18s sail a one-day series on the Curlane Bank, while there was a good turnout of 30 cruiser racers for a no-discard two-day event.
The dinghy types included Fireballs, 420s, ILCAs, Fevas, and mixed designs, such as an International 14 and a Wayfarer.
The fleets sailed past Cobh, resplendent with a cruise liner at the deepwater berth, against a strong flood tide and an east-south-east wind before heading out of the harbour. They got some respite traversing the Owenabue River, with the wind and tide helping them to a finish at the Club in Crosshaven.
The smaller Optimists, however, took a shorter route under the Haulbowline Bridge to sail on the Curlane Bank before they, too, reached the Owenabue River.
On Sunday, each fleet sailed two races on the Curlane Bank.
